The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is deepening as Israeli authorities restrict access to water by cutting electricity and blocking fuel supplies, according to Doctors Without Borders (MSF).
"In Gaza, Palestine, in the midst of a shattered ceasefire and more deaths, another tactic of war is playing out as Israeli authorities essentially block access to water by cutting electricity and fuel from entering Gaza," warns MSF in a statement.
It calls for an immediate restoration of the ceasefire and the unimpeded entry of essential aid to prevent further civilian suffering.
The Lebanese army said Israeli forces breached the border near Naqoura in the Tyre district of southern Lebanon, carving two roads into the Labbouneh area.
In a statement, the army command labelled the move part of Israel's "persistent violations" of the ceasefire agreement and attacks on Lebanese sovereignty.
The statement detailed that a Lebanese army patrol responded by sealing the two roads with earthen barriers.
A Turkish national who is a doctoral student at Tufts University has been detained by federal agents without explanation, her lawyer said.
Rumeysa Ozturk, 30, had just left her home in Somerville to meet with friends Tuesday night when she was detained by US Department of Homeland Security agents, lawyer Mahsa Khanbabai said in a petition filed in Boston federal court.
Surveillance video obtained by The Associated Press appears to show six people, their faces covered, taking away Ozturk's phone as she yelled and was handcuffed.
Ozturk was one of four students last March who co-authored an op-ed piece in The Tufts Daily, criticising the university's response to its community union Senate passing resolutions demanding that Tufts "acknowledge the Palestinian genocide", disclose its investments and divest from companies with direct or indirect ties to Israel.
The resumption of Israeli attacks in Gaza has displaced 142,000 people in just one week, the United Nations said, warning of the humanitarian cost.
"142,000 people have been displaced," a spokesman for Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said, pointing out that about 90 percent of Gaza's population has been displaced at least once between the start of the war on October 7, 2023 and January of this year.
The Israeli military ordered the evacuation of parts of Gaza City as it steps up its renewed offensive, after breaking the ceasefire last week.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said the military would soon "operate with full force" in additional parts of Gaza, more than a week after resuming its offensive in the Palestinian territory.
Israeli forces "will soon operate with full force in additional areas of Gaza, and you will be asked to evacuate from combat zones for your own safety", Katz said in a post on X.
"Hamas is putting your lives at risk, causing you to lose your homes and more and more territory that will be integrated into Israel's defense formation."
The commander of the Northern Brigade of the Israeli army's Gaza Division has officially announced his resignation over failures during Hamas's October 7, 2023, attack.
Haim Cohen said that he takes responsibility for the brigade's failures during the October 7 attack, The Times of Israel reported.
"The results show I failed!!!" he wrote in his resignation letter.
At least 18 more Palestinians, including six children, were killed in Israeli strikes across Gaza, medical sources said, targeting homes and groups of civilians across the war-devastated enclave.
The Lebanese people reject any normalisation of relations with Israel, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said.
"No one in Lebanon wants to normalise ties with Israel," Salam said during a meeting with a press delegation in Beirut as cited by a government statement.
"Normalisation with Israel is rejected by all the Lebanese people," he added.
