“The air defence of Bandar Abbas was activated to combat micro-drones,” state TV reported without elaborating.

Citing an air defence commander, it also said that “over the past hour, 10 hostile Israeli aircraft were shot down in different areas” of the country.

Iran’s air defences shot down three Israeli drones over Qom province, the Crisis Management Centre in Qom said, amid escalating hostilities between the two countries.

In a statement, the centre confirmed the unmanned aerial vehicles were intercepted in the skies above Qom, home to the Fordo nuclear facility, which Israel has claimed to be among its targets during the latest round of air strikes.

Iranian Navy intercepts British destroyer in Indian Ocean assisting Israeli missile targeting: IRNA

The Iranian Navy intercepted a British destroyer in the northern Indian Ocean meant to help guide Israeli missiles toward Iranian territory, state news agency IRNA reported.

According to a statement from the public relations office of the First Naval Zone, the destroyer was detected by Iranian intelligence systems Friday night and warned by combat drones before it could advance towards the Gulf.

The vessel is said to have been forced to change course after being tracked in the Sea of Oman.

White House urges Iran to 'give up' nuclear weapons programme

Amid intensifying Israel-Iran tension, a senior White House official said that a peaceful resolution remains within reach if Tehran is willing to abandon its nuclear weapons programme.

“Whatever happens today cannot be prevented,” the official told Anadolu.

“But we have the ability to negotiate a successful peaceful resolution to this conflict if Iran is willing. The fastest way for Iran to accomplish peace is to give up its nuclear weapons programme,” the official added.

Azerbaijan says will not allow strikes on Iran from its territory

Azerbaijan reassured neighbouring Iran that it would not allow its territory to be used for attacks against Tehran, following unprecedented Israeli strikes on Iranian targets.

“Azerbaijan will never allow its territory to be used for attacks on third countries, including friendly Iran,” Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov told his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi.

Macron urges Iran president to ‘quickly’ resume nuclear talks

France’s President Emmanuel Macron urged his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian to “quickly” resume negotiations over his country’s nuclear programme, as a conflict between Tehran and Israel escalated.

Fresh US-Iranian talks on Tehran’s nuclear programme that had been scheduled for Sunday were cancelled after Israel launched a massive wave of strikes on Iran, targeting nuclear facilities and killing top army commanders and atomic scientists.

Macron said in a message on X that he “invited President Pezeshkian to return swiftly to the negotiating table to reach an agreement — the only viable path to de-escalation”.
