Protesters across US demand release of Palestinian activist Mahmoud KhalilProtesters gathered outside US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) headquarters in Washington, DC to demand the release of Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil — a green card holder and recent Columbia University graduate who helped organise campus protests last year.
Demonstrators later took to the streets, chanting: "We want justice, you say how. Free Mahmoud Khalil now!" and "Free all the students today". Many held banners that read: "Free Palestine", "Release Mahmoud Khalil" and "ICE off our campuses".
Protests were also held in New York City, where demonstrators rallied in Times Square before marching through to Columbus Circle. Organisers condemned Khalil's detention, arguing that his right to protest is protected under the First Amendment.
Houthis vow retaliation for US-UK air strikes on Yemini capitalThe Yemeni Houthi group vowed to respond to a US-UK attack that targeted a residential area in Sanaa, resulting in casualties.
The Houthi Political Bureau described the strikes as a "treacherous and sinful act of aggression and a full-fledged war crime".
"Targeting civilians is further proof of American terrorism against nations and peoples that oppose it," it said in a statement.
"US-UK aggression was carried out in response to Yemen's support for the Palestinian people, but it will not deter Yemen from continuing its backing for Palestine and fulfilling its duty to support Gaza."
White House says 'multiple' Houthi leaders killed, Iran 'on notice'US strikes killed multiple Houthi leaders in Yemen, the White House said, adding Iran was "put on notice" to stop backing the rebel group and its attacks on Red Sea shipping.
The air strikes Saturday "actually targeted multiple Houthi leaders and took them out," National Security Advisor Michael Waltz told ABC News.
"We just hit them with overwhelming force and put Iran on notice that enough is enough," he said in a separate appearance on Fox News.
He also reiterated a US warning that "all options are on the table" to prevent Iran from attaining a nuclear weapon.
