Over 17,000 Palestinian children killed in Gaza since October 2023: Education Ministry

Children are among the most targeted victims of Israeli aggression, with over 17,000 children killed in Gaza since October 2023, the Palestinian Education Ministry has said.

The ministry, in a press release marking Palestinian Children's Day, which is observed annually on April 5, said, "education in Palestine, particularly in Gaza, is under direct attack by the Israeli occupation, which continues to destroy schools and prevent children from accessing safe educational environments."

It said students in Gaza, Jerusalem, and areas classified as “Area C” in the occupied West Bank face daily challenges due to the ongoing war.

"More than 17,000 children have been martyred in Gaza, a figure that reflects the depth of the tragedy children are enduring, with each number representing a life, memories, and experiences lost," the ministry said.

Death toll surges to eight in Israeli attacks across Gaza

Eight Palestinians have been killed in multiple Israeli strikes across Gaza, medical sources said, as the Israeli army continued demolishing residential buildings in western Rafah.

In Rafah, the Israeli army also continued demolishing residential buildings in the western part of the city, particularly in the Tel al-Sultan neighborhood, where it has been carrying out a military offensive since March 23.

The area has been under siege as the army attempts to expand its control and establish what it calls a “buffer security zone.”

New York Times video contradicts Israeli army’s claims on killing Gaza paramedics

A video released by The New York Times has exposed a deliberate lie by the Israeli army regarding the killing of 15 Palestinian paramedics in southern Gaza on March 23.

In its initial statement and after international outrage, the Israeli army claimed that the vehicles were advancing “suspiciously” from its forces "without headlights, or emergency signals, (and) their movement was not coordinated in advance."

The army claimed that nine members from Hamas and Islamic Jihad groups were killed in the attack.

However, the footage contradicted Israeli claims and presented new evidence that the vehicles involved in the attack were clearly marked and had their emergency lights on.

The video was captured by one of the medics who was killed in the attack and was found among the 15 medics buried, including eight Red Crescent workers and five Civil Defense personnel, in a mass grave in Gaza.

In a separate attack, a Palestinian was killed, and his wife and child were injured after their apartment was bombed in central Khan Younis.

In Gaza City, a Palestinian woman was killed in an Israeli strike on the Zeitoun neighborhood, located in the southeast of the city.

Witnesses said Israel resumed heavy shelling on the al-Shujaiya neighborhood in eastern Gaza at dawn, firing extensively into the area.

Hamas says Israel is putting lives of captives at risk in Gaza

Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of the Palestinian resistance group Hamas, has warned that the lives of Israeli captives are at risk as Israel orders all Palestinians to flee from the areas.

"Half of the living Israeli prisoners are located in areas in which the Israeli occupation army has requested to be evacuated in recent days," spokesman Abu Obaida said in a statement.

He noted that his group decided "not to transfer these prisoners from these areas, and to keep them under strict security measures, which are extremely dangerous to their lives," without disclosing further information.

"If the enemy is concerned about the lives of these prisoners, they must immediately negotiate their evacuation or release," he said.

Abu Obaida held Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s extremist government responsible "for the lives of the prisoners," adding if Israel committed to a January ceasefire "most of them would probably be in their homes today."
