Egypt's intelligence chief to discuss Gaza with Israeli delegation

Egypt's intelligence chief General Hassan Mahmoud Rashady is set to meet an Israeli delegation headed by strategic affairs minister Ron Dermer on Monday in Cairo, the Egyptian state-affiliated Al Qahera News TV has reported.

The meeting is part of Qatar-Egyptian efforts to restore a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, the channel said.

Houthi group targets US aircraft carrier Harry S. Truman in Red Sea: statement

The Yemeni Houthi group has said that it carried out a military operation targeting the USS Harry S. Truman and other hostile warships in the northern Red Sea.

Yahya Sare'e, the group's spokesman, said in a televised statement that the Houthi Air Force and Naval Forces carried out a joint operation using cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and drones in response to “continued American aggression" against Yemen.

He added that the operation also targeted “additional hostile warships” operating in the area.

“As a result of the clash and confrontation, the carrier was forced to retreat and move away from its previous position, heading toward the far northern part of the Red Sea,” he added.

The Yemeni forces “will continue to target and pursue the aircraft carrier and all hostile warships in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea until the aggression against Yemen ceases,” Sare’e continued.

Israel's Shin Bet chief to step down

The head of Israel's domestic intelligence service, Ronen Bar, has announced his resignation and will step down on June 15, Israeli media has reported, six weeks after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tried to oust the security chief.

The Shin Bet, which handles counter-terrorism investigations, has been at the centre of a growing political battle pitting Netanyahu's right-wing coalition government against an array of critics ranging from members of the security establishment to families of hostages in Gaza.

Netanyahu said on March 16 that he had long ago lost confidence in Bar and that trust in the head of the domestic security service, whose roles include counter-terrorism and security for government officials, was especially crucial at a time of war.

The Supreme Court later temporarily froze the government's bid to sack Bar, who claimed that Netanyahu wanted to fire him after he refused to fulfil requests that included spying on Israeli protesters and disrupting the leader's corruption trial.

Hezbollah condemns Israel strike on Beirut suburb as 'unjustified aggression'

Hezbollah's leader Naim Qassem has said that an Israeli strike on the group's south Beirut stronghold the day before was an unjustified "aggression", months into a fragile ceasefire.

"Yesterday, an aggression targeted the southern suburbs of Beirut. This attack lacks any justification... It is a political attack aimed at changing the rules by force," Qassem said in a televised speech.

Freed Israeli hostages urge Trump to bring the rest home

Israelis held hostage in Gaza and freed during a recent ceasefire, which has since collapsed, have appealed to US President Donald Trump to secure the release of all remaining captives.

The former hostages thanked Trump for his part in reaching the truce with Hamas, which went into effect a day before he returned to the White House in January and saw their release along with dozens abducted during the October 7, 2023 attack.

The truce lasted for nearly two months, and Israel resumed its war across Gaza on March 18.

"Several weeks after my return home, on March 6 I had the honour of meeting President Trump at the White House," said Naama Levy, one of the four former hostages, speaking at a press conference in Tel Aviv marking Trump's 100 days in office.

"He welcomed me with genuine warmth and he made me a promise that he would not rest until every last hostage is free," said Levy.

Iran calls deadly US strikes on Yemen a 'war crime'

Iran has condemned US strikes on Yemen that Houthi said hit a migrant detention centre in the Tehran-backed group's stronghold of Saada, killing at least 68 people.

In a statement, foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei called the strikes "on civilian targets, vital infrastructure and people's homes in various parts of Yemen... a war crime."

Strikes in Yemen a growing risk to civilians: UN

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is deeply alarmed by reports of strikes on a detention centre for African migrants in Yemen, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric has said.

"Strikes pose a growing risk to the civilian population in Yemen," he said. "We continue to call on all parties to uphold their obligations under international humanitarian law, including the protection of civilians."

After Israeli missile took his legs, young Palestinian gymnast still hopeful

On a hospital bed in Gaza, young Palestinian Ahmad al-Ghalban scrolls through old videos on his mobile phone with a weary hand, now left with only one finger.

In these videos, he practices gymnastics with agility and grace in an open space north of the war-torn enclave.

These clips capture moments shared between Ahmad, 16, and his twin brother Mohammad, who was killed in an Israeli air strike that directly targeted them and two other relatives inside their home in the northern town of Beit Lahia.

At the time, they were packing essential belongings in preparation for a new displacement journey following Israeli evacuation orders on March 22.

As a result of the strike, Ahmad lost both legs and four fingers of his left hand. He also suffered a broken right hand and a severe back injury.

Yemen's Houthis vow to continue attacks after suspected US strike

Yemen's Houthis have vowed to continue attacks in the Red and Arabian seas after a suspected US strike, the Iran-aligned group's military spokesperson Yahya Saree has said in a televised statement.

His statements come after a suspected US air strike that killed at least 68 people at a detention centre for African migrants in Yemen in what was one of the deadliest so far in six weeks.
