Over 82 Palestinians killed in fresh Israeli strikes on Gaza: rescuers

Gaza rescuers said Israeli strikes and shelling killed 82 people in the war-battered Palestinian territory, updating a previous toll.

"The number of martyrs from Israeli air strikes on Gaza has risen to 82 after the occupation targeted several homes in northern Gaza," civil defence spokesman Mohammad al-Mughayir told AFP, after the agency earlier reported 50 killed.

Another Palestinian journalist killed in Israeli strike in Gaza, death toll rises to 216

Another Palestinian journalist was killed in an Israeli air strike in Gaza, bringing the overall death toll since October 2023 to 216, local authorities said.

Hassan Sammour, an anchor for Al-Aqsa Voice Radio, and his family were killed in the pre-dawn strike that hit eastern Khan Younis in southern Gaza, the government media office said in a statement.

The media office denounced Israel’s targeting of Palestinian journalists and called on human rights and media institutions around the world to “condemn these systematic crimes against Gaza journalists.”

46 more Palestinians killed in Israeli strikes on homes, tents across Gaza

At least 46 Palestinians were killed in another deadly night as Israeli army warplanes struck several homes and tents for displaced people across war-devastated Gaza, medical sources said.

A medical source said that a series of Israeli strikes around dawn on homes and tents in the southern city of Khan Younis left 36 people dead and more than 60 injured, including women and children.

Medics retrieved five more bodies from the rubble of homes that were targeted last night, as rescue efforts are still ongoing to search for survivors.

US Muslim group welcomes judge’s order to release Georgetown scholar

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) welcomed a federal judge's order to release Georgetown University postdoctoral scholar Badar Khan Suri, calling it a critical victory for free speech.

"We applaud this ruling, which is the latest important example of the judiciary pushing back against the Trump administration's brazenly unconstitutional effort to deport college students whose only offense is speaking out against US support for the Israeli government's genocide in Gaza," said CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad, who attended the hearing.

"All of these students must go free and the Trump administration must respect free speech," he added.

Foreign ministers of Iraq, Egypt, Jordan meet in Baghdad ahead of Arab League Summit

The foreign ministers of Iraq, Egypt and Jordan met in the Iraqi capital Baghdad ahead of an Arab League Summit which Baghdad is set to host on Saturday.

Jordan's Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi noted that meeting discussed ways to develop cooperation between the countries, adding the security of the countries as well as the threats they faced are common.

Israel snubs US envoy as Netanyahu refuses to bend on Gaza truce — report

US President Donald Trump's special envoy to the Middle East has called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu several times in recent days, urging him to broaden the mandate of his negotiating team and be more flexible in talks with Hamas, according to reports in the Israeli press.

However, Tel Aviv remains defiant on making any concessions, Israel's Haaretz daily reported.

The outreach by Steve Witkoff comes as Israel ramps up its genocide in Gaza, launching a second day of heavy airstrikes on various areas, including the European Gaza Hospital complex near Khan Younis, killing at least 80 Palestinians, including women and 22 children.

Despite the ongoing negotiations and Trump’s visit to the Middle East, Netanyahu continues to resist concessions.

Israel is sticking to the "Witkoff framework," a proposal outlined two and a half months ago that calls for a 45-day ceasefire and negotiations in exchange for Hamas releasing 10 hostages and handing over the remains of half of the Israelis who have died, the source told the daily.

Israel summons Spanish envoy after Sanchez's 'genocidal state' remark

Israel has summoned the Spanish ambassador after Spain's Prime Minister called it a "genocidal state."

Ana Salomon was asked to attend a meeting at the Foreign Ministry after Pedro Sanchez made the remarks, saying Spain "does not do business" with such a country.

"Following the severe remarks made by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, the Spanish Ambassador to Israel has been summoned for a reprimand meeting at the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem tomorrow," the Israeli Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

During a parliamentary question-and-answer session in Madrid, Sanchez responded to criticism from Gabriel Rufian, a Catalan member of parliament, who accused the Socialist leader of maintaining trade ties with Israel despite the Gaza war.

"I want to make one thing clear here, Mr Rufian. We do not do business with a genocidal state," Sanchez stressed.
