PM Benjamin Netanyahu warned that Israel will "strike everywhere in Lebanon against any threat", after the first strike on south Beirut since a November ceasefire with Hezbollah.
"The equation has changed... we will not allow any fire on our communities," Netanyahu said in a statement. "We will continue to enforce the ceasefire with force, strike everywhere in Lebanon against any threat to the State of Israel, and ensure that all our residents in the north return safely to their homes," he added.
Hamas spokesperson Basem Naim has said that talks over a ceasefire deal between the Palestinian resistance group and mediators are gaining momentum as Israel continues intensive brutal attacks in Gaza.
"We hope that the coming days will bring a real breakthrough in the war situation, following intensified communications with and between mediators in recent days", Naim told AFP.
Naim said the proposal "aims to achieve a ceasefire, open border crossings, (and) allow humanitarian aid in".
Lebanese official media reported an air strike on south Beirut, the first such raid since a November ceasefire largely halted hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah.
AFPTV images showed smoke billowing from the area.
The National News Agency said that "Israeli warplanes struck the Hadath neighbourhood in Beirut's southern suburbs", referring to a densely populated area home to residential buildings and schools.
Five Lebanese were killed and 18 others injured in a series of Israeli air strikes on southern Lebanon, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry.
The strikes were part of a series of Israeli attacks that targeted multiple areas in southern Lebanon under the pretext of striking "Hezbollah-linked targets."
A drone strike targeted the town of Yohmor al-Shaqif in Nabatieh district, killing two people, the Lebanese state news agency NNA reported.
Damascus witnessed a protest rally condemning the Israeli attacks on the town of Koya in Daraa province, southern Syria.
The rally was organised at the Umayyad Square, where participants carried banners in Arabic and English denouncing the Israeli aggression and affirming that Syrian blood is not cheap.

Israel's Defence Minister Israel Katz threatened to strike Hezbollah's Dahieh stronghold in Beirut if there is "any attempt to harm" north Israel after rockets were launched from Lebanon.
"Any attempt to harm the Galilee communities, the rooftops of the houses in the Dahieh neighbourhood in Beirut will tremble", Katz said in a video statement, referring to villages in northern Israel targeted by rockets until a November ceasefire with Hezbollah. He warned Lebanon's government: "If you do not enforce the ceasefire agreement, we will enforce it."
The UN Human Rights office accused Israel of violating international law by forcibly displacing Palestinians in Gaza under "mandatory evacuation orders".
The Israeli army has issued what the UN describes as 10 mandatory evacuation orders, covering large areas across Gaza, since it resumed its war tiny enclave on March 18, breaking a two-month-old ceasefire amid rows over terms for extending it.
"These evacuations fail to comply with the requirements of international humanitarian law," UN human rights spokesperson Thameen Al-Kheetan said in a statement.
The Yemeni Houthi group said that seven civilians were injured in US air strikes on several areas in the capital Sanaa.

Palestinian sources close to Hamas told AFP news agency that talks were underway between the resistance group and mediators from Egypt and Qatar to revive a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal for Gaza.
"A meeting began this evening between the Egyptian delegation responsible for negotiations in Doha and a Hamas delegation in an effort to solidify a ceasefire," said a source who requested anonymity because he was not authorised to speak publicly on the issue.
