At least 34 killed in Israeli strikes on two Gaza schools

At least 34 people have been killed in Israeli air strikes on two schools sheltering displaced civilians in Gaza City, according to authorities.

The Palestinian Civil Defense in Gaza said 31 Palestinians, including children and women, were killed in an air strike that targeted the Dar Al-Arqam School, where hundreds of civilians have taken refuge in the Tuffah neighbourhood in Gaza City.

It reported that six victims are missing, with dozens injured.

Amnesty: Hungary's withdrawal from ICC 'betrayal of all victims of war crimes'

Amnesty International strongly condemned Hungary's decision to withdraw from the International Criminal Court (ICC), describing it as a "betrayal of all victims of war crimes."

In a statement, Amnesty International Secretary General Agnes Callamard said leaders and officials from ICC member states must not undermine the ICC by meeting with Netanyahu or other ICC fugitives wanted by the Court.

Qatar condemned allegations that it made “financial payments” to undermine efforts by Egypt and mediators in talks between Hamas and Israel for a ceasefire in Gaza.

“The State of Qatar strongly condemns the statements published by some journalists and media outlets alleging that Qatar has made financial payments to undermine the efforts of Egypt or any of the mediators involved in the ongoing negotiations between Hamas and Israel,” Qatar’s International Media Office said in a statement.​​​​​​​

It affirmed that “these allegations are baseless and serve only the agendas of those who seek to sabotage the mediation efforts and undermine relations between nations,” it added.

UN accuses Israel of destabilising Syria after attacks

The United Nations accused Israel of destabilising Syria after a wave of strikes on targets, including an airport, and a ground incursion killed 13 people.

The UN envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, decried "the repeated and intensifying military escalations by Israel in Syria, including air strikes that have reportedly resulted in civilian casualties".

"Such actions undermine efforts to build a new Syria at peace with itself and the region, and destabilise Syria at a sensitive time," he said in a statement.

ICC concerned about Hungary's decision to withdraw from the court

The presidency of the International Criminal Court expressed concern about Hungary's decision to withdraw from the court.

In a letter to Hungary it urged the country to continue to be a resolute party to the Rome Statute, the founding treaty of the ICC. Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban said the country would withdraw completely from the court on the same day Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, indicted by the ICC, visited Budapest.
