Israel has 'completely' blocked all humanitarian aid into Gaza for 50 days: UN

The UN has marked 50 days since Israel imposed a complete blockade on humanitarian aid into Gaza, warning of a rapidly deteriorating situation that is endangering the lives of civilians.

"Today marks 50 days since the Israeli authorities have completely blocked incoming supplies of any kind into Gaza," UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said at a news conference.

Citing the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Dujarric said: "Since early March, not a single truck carrying food, fuel, medicine or any other essentials have been allowed in no matter how critical they are for people's survival."

Warning over the "dangerously low" food stocks in the enclave, Dujarric said: "Rations have been cut. Critical medicines, vaccines and medical supplies are all running low."

Israeli probe into Gaza aid workers' killings not enough: Palestinian Red Crescent

The Palestinian Red Crescent has called for a "serious investigation" into the killing of 15 aid workers in Gaza last month, a day after the Israeli military admitted "professional failures" and disciplined two officers over the incident.

Younish Al-Khatib, chairman of the Palestinian Red Crescent, said he did not consider the measures taken by the Israeli military, which reprimanded one officer and dismissed another from his position, as sufficient.

"This looks like the management of a company taking administrative measures against its employees who made some kind of a mistake," he said.

"When you kill 15 medical staff and civil defence personnel, these can't be called 'measures'."

Bernie Sanders slams Israel’s Gaza blockade, calling for end to US military aid

US Senator Bernie Sanders has blasted Israel’s continued blockade on humanitarian aid into Gaza, calling the restriction a “war crime” and demanding an end to American military aid for Israel.

“It’s been 51 days since ANY humanitarian aid has entered Gaza,” Sanders wrote on X.

“Israeli Minister of Defence Katz has said: ‘Israel’s policy is clear: no humanitarian aid will enter Gaza.’ This is a war crime. We must end our complicity. NO more military aid for Netanyahu's war machine.”

Palestinian death toll from Israeli strikes on Gaza homes, tents rises to 22

The Israeli army has killed at least 22 more Palestinians in fresh strikes targeting homes and tents across Gaza, as Tel Aviv continued its deadly assault on the enclave, medics have said.

Five people lost their lives and several others were injured when fighter jets hit a tent for displaced people in central Gaza City, a medical source said.

Two more people were injured in a drone strike on a group of civilians in the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, the source added.

The official Palestinian news agency Wafa, citing medical sources, said that a Palestinian and his wife were killed in an Israeli strike on their tent in the Al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis in southern Gaza.

An Israeli warplane also struck a home in Khan Younis, killing five people and injuring several others.

Two more were also killed in another attack in the same city, Wafa said.

Two more Palestinians were killed in another drone strike on a group of civilians in the Al-Manara neighbourhood in southern Khan Younis, another medical source said.

A Palestinian also succumbed to his wounds sustained a few days ago from an Israeli strike in Deir al-Balah city in central Gaza, the source added.

Two more people were killed, and several others injured in an Israeli strike in the Zeitoun neighbourhood in southeastern Gaza City, another medical source said.

Israeli artillery shelling also killed two Palestinians on the Salah al-Din Street opposite the city of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza.

In the southern city of Rafah, a Palestinian farmer lost his life in Israeli shelling.

Several Israeli soldiers killed, injured in Gaza City ambush: Hamas

The Palestinian resistance group Hamas has said that several Israeli soldiers were killed and injured in an ambush in Gaza City.

The group’s armed wing, the Qassam Brigades, said that its fighters had detonated a tunnel shaft after luring an Israeli force into it in the Tuffah neighbourhood in eastern Gaza City.

There was no immediate Israeli comment on the report.

US envoy to Israel urges Hamas to sign deal so aid can enter Gaza

The new US ambassador to Israel has called on Palestinian resistance group Hamas to accept a deal that would secure the release of hostages, in exchange for the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza.

"We call upon Hamas to sign an agreement so that humanitarian aid can flow into Gaza to the people who desperately need it," Mike Huckabee said in a video statement on X.

"When that happens, and hostages are released which is an urgent matter for all of us, then we hope that the humanitarian aid will flow and flow freely knowing it will be done without Hamas being able to confiscate and abuse their own people", he added.

Ex-South African minister urges global action to enforce ICJ's Gaza ruling

The failure to stop Israel’s genocidal attacks on Gaza has exposed the shortcomings of international legal mechanisms and renewed urgent calls to reform the UN, former South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor told Anadolu in an exclusive interview.

Pandor, 71, served as foreign minister when South Africa filed a genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in December 2023, during the third month of Tel Aviv’s brutal assault on the Palestinian enclave.

The ICJ later ordered Israel to take “all measures within its power” to prevent acts of genocide in the Palestinian enclave, though it stopped short of ordering a cease-fire. It also directed Israel to ensure the provision of humanitarian aid and essential services to Gaza.

“It cannot be that we allow the world to stand by, weak, while the people are being murdered,” Pandor said during the interview in Istanbul.

“We need a capacity that is military, that can go and become a protector of the innocent wherever such harm occurs in the world.” As the world begins “more concrete discussions” about UN reform, she asked: “What form of enforcement capacity should we create in the global community?”

“It could be under the remit of the (UN) Security Council, but then the composition of the Security Council cannot be as it is today,” she said.

Israel's Netanyahu says security chief 'failed miserably on October 7'

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has pushed back against his domestic security chief Ronen Bar, saying that the head of Shin Bet "failed miserably" when Hamas attacked Israel.

"Bar confirms the assessment of all government ministers that he failed miserably on October 7th. This reason alone justifies the end of his tenure," read a lengthy response from Netanyahu in a statement issued by his office after Bar filed an affidavit containing accusations against the long-time premier.

Hamas initiates legal case in UK, seeking removal from government’s terror list

The Palestinian group Hamas has filed a legal petition in the UK, requesting that the government remove it from the list of designated terrorist organisations.

In November 2021, then-UK Home Secretary Priti Patel announced that Hamas had been designated as a "terrorist" organisation.

Daniel Grutters, one of the lawyers leading the legal process for Hamas in the UK, told Anadolu that Patel’s decision in 2021 was made for "political reasons" and constituted "an abuse of power."

Grutters said the application seeks to remove Hamas from the UK's list of banned organisations and that the group has the right to challenge the decision, for which he is providing legal assistance to his client during the preparation stage.
