WHO director denounces killing of Palestinian medics during rescue mission in southern Gaza

The director of the World Health Organization (WHO) denounced the killing by Israel of Palestinian medics and first responders who were on a rescue mission in southern Gaza.

"The deadly attack against eight Palestinian Red Crescent ambulance workers in Gaza while on duty is deplorable," Tedros Ghebreyesus wrote late Monday on X. "We mourn the deaths of these colleagues, and we urge for an immediate end to attacks on health and humanitarian workers.”

The Israeli army issued evacuation orders for Palestinians in a city in northern Gaza in a move widely seen as a form of collective punishment, following the reported firing of a rocket from the enclave.

Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee ordered the immediate evacuation of Beit Hanoun before the army carries out strikes in the area.

Israeli far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said that 2024 was a "record" year for demolitions of Palestinian construction in the occupied West Bank that Israel labels as 'illegal'.

"In the past year, the record for demolishing illegal Arab construction in Judea and Samaria (the West Bank) has been broken," he said. "In order to win this battle, we must use additional strategic tools," he added in reference to building new Israeli settlements.

Israeli ministers say won't allow Palestinian Authority control of West Bank

Defence Minister Israel Katz said that Israel would not allow the Palestinian Authority (PA) to control the occupied West Bank during a tour of the territory with far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who said Israel was "here to stay".

Referring to ongoing Israeli military raids on Palestinian refugee camps in Jenin, Tulkarem, and Nur al-Shams, Katz said in a video statement alongside Smotrich, 'we will prevent any attempt by the PA to take control of Judea and Samaria (West Bank) and harm Jewish settlements.'"

Hezbollah official among four dead in Israeli strike on Beirut

A Hezbollah official handling Palestinian affairs was among four people killed in an Israeli strike on south Beirut, Israel and a Hezbollah source said, the second such raid on the capital during a four-month ceasefire.

Lebanon's leaders condemned the attack, which came without warning at around 3:30 am (0030 GMT) during the Eid al Fitr holiday marking the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

Gaza health officials say 1,042 killed since Israel resumed strikes

The Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza said that 1,042 people have been killed in the Palestinian territory since Israel resumed large-scale aggression on March 18.

According to the ministry's statement, the figure includes 41 people killed in the past 24 hours. It also reported that the overall death toll had reached 50,399 since the war began on October 7, 2023.

Israel kills 42 more Palestinians in Gaza in 24 hours

At least 42 more Palestinians were killed in Israeli air strikes in Gaza, bringing the death toll from Israel’s genocidal war since October 2023 to 50,399, the Palestinian Health Ministry in the enclave has said.

A ministry statement said that 183 more injured people were also transferred to hospitals in the past 24 hours, taking the number of injuries to 114,583 in the Israeli onslaught.

“Many victims are still trapped under the rubble and on the roads as rescuers are unable to reach them,” it added.

The Israeli army killed 1,042 people and wounded over 2,500 others following a decision to resume its genocidal war on Gaza on March 18.

Hezbollah lawmaker Ibrahim Musawi has called on the Lebanese state to act after a deadly Israeli strike on Beirut's southern suburbs, the second in days despite a Hezbollah-Israel ceasefire.

Musawi told journalists near the strike site that Lebanese authorities must "act with the highest level of effectiveness, make the international community bear its responsibility, and take the highest level of measures to guarantee the safety of the Lebanese", adding that "what happened is a very big attack".
