Israel proposes 40-day Gaza ceasefire deal to secure release of 11 hostages, return of 16 bodies: Report

Israel submitted a new proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza, local media reported.

The Haaretz daily, citing a senior Israeli official, said Israel had asked the Palestinian group Hamas through mediators Egypt and Qatar for the release of 11 living hostages and the return of 16 bodies, in addition to providing information on the remaining captives in Gaza, in return for a suspension of its genocidal war.

In addition to the ceasefire, Israel would release an unspecified number of Palestinian prisoners from its jails, the newspaper said.

Egypt, Iran discuss de-escalation, preventing regional expansion of Gaza genocide

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el Sisi reaffirmed his commitment to de-escalating regional tensions and preventing an expansion of the carnage in Gaza in a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian.

The Egyptian presidency said the Iranian president praised "Egypt's dedicated efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip."

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich resigned from his post, deepening tensions within Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's right-wing coalition, Israeli Channel 12 reported.

Smotrich will return to his seat in the Knesset as a lawmaker for the far-right Religious Zionism party, which he leads.

The resignation comes amid a dispute with National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir over the reinstatement of Knesset member Zvi Sukkot.

UN says continuous forced displacement in Gaza causing panic and uncertainty

At least 140,000 people were affected by the illegal Israeli evacuation order for Rafah, according to Philippe Lazzarini, the head of the UN agency helping Palestinian refugees.

"People are treated like pinballs with constant military orders playing with their fate and lives," Lazzarini wrote on the social platform X.

"This is causing panic, anxiety & uncertainty on the first day of Eid, a time to be with family & loved ones," he added.

Israel kills journalist and his entire family in Khan Younis

Palestinian journalist Mohammed al-Bardaweel and his family were killed in an Israeli air strike on their apartment in Khan Younis, southern Gaza.

Al-Aqsa local radio announced the deaths, condemning the attack as part of Israel’s ongoing "genocidal war."

The radio station accused the Israeli occupation forces of targeting journalists to suppress the Palestinian narrative.
