Israeli air strikes hit Syria’s Damascus, Hama

Israeli fighter jets struck the Syrian cities of Damascus and Hama, the Syrian news agency SANA reported.

“An Israeli occupation airstrike targeted the vicinity of the building of the scientific research center in the Barzeh residential district of Damascus,” it said.

In a separate attack, airstrikes hit the vicinity of Hama city in central Syria.

One killed in fresh strikes blamed on US: Yemen's Houthis

Yemen's Houthis said fresh US air strikes killed one person in Hudaida province, after overnight air raids left four people dead in the same area.

Anees Alasbahi, spokesperson for the Houthis' health ministry, reported "one civilian martyr and one wounded" in the Red Sea port of Ras Issa, saying they were "victims of the US enemy's air force".

Houthi media said strikes hit Ras Issa as well as the Iran-backed group's northern stronghold of Saada.

UN chief 'shocked' by Israeli attack on Gaza medical convoy

United Nations chief Antonio Guterres expressed shock at the killing of 15 emergency responders in Gaza by the Israeli army and demanded an independent investigation.

"The secretary-general is shocked by the attacks of the Israeli army on a medical and emergency convoy on March 23 resulting in the killings of 15 medical personnel and humanitarian workers in Gaza," spokesperson Stephane Dujarric told a briefing.

Guterres "honours all humanitarian workers who have been killed in this conflict and demands a full, thorough and independent investigation," he added.

Israeli army to establish new security corridor in Gaza: Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the Israeli military would seize control of the Morag Corridor in Gaza, mirroring its control of the Philadelphi one.

“We are taking control of the Morag Corridor, which will be an additional Philadelphi Corridor,” Netanyahu said in a video statement, according to Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper.

Over 1,066 Palestinians killed in Gaza since Israel resumed strikes

The Palestinian Health Ministry in besieged Gaza said that 1,066 people have been killed in the tiny enclave since Israel resumed its brutal strikes on March 18.

Citing the Israeli killing of 15 humanitarian workers whose bodies were discovered in a mass grave in Gaza, Jonathan Whittall, senior humanitarian affairs officer at the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in the occupied Palestinian territory, said in a virtual news conference that: "They were killed while trying to save lives."

UN reports 137 percent surge in aid worker deaths in 2023 with 2024 being 'worst year' on record

The UN reported that humanitarian workers are being killed at an "unprecedented" level, with 2024 being the "worst year" on record for aid personnel.

"According to the available data, 2024 was the worst year on record, with 377 aid workers killed in 20 countries. This was nearly 100 more fatalities than in 2023, which had already seen a 137 percent increase over 2022," Joyce Msuya, assistant secretary-general for humanitarian affairs and deputy emergency relief coordinator, told the UN Security Council.

Norway 'strongly' condemns killing of humanitarian workers in Gaza

Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide "strongly" condemned the killing of 15 humanitarian workers in Gaza, describing the incident as "very serious" and urging an investigation to hold those responsible accountable.

"The reports that up to up to fifteen humanitarian workers from the Palestinian Red Crescent, the Palestinian Civil Defence and the UN have been killed and found buried in the sand in Gaza are alarming,” Eide said in a statement.
