It is 'necessary to reach a ceasefire' in Gaza: Hamas

A Hamas official has said that it is "necessary to reach a ceasefire" in Gaza, three weeks after Israel resumed aggression on the Palestinian enclave.

"This war cannot continue indefinitely, and it is therefore necessary to reach a ceasefire," Hossam Badran, a member of Hamas' political bureau, told AFP.

He added that "communication with the mediators is still ongoing" but that "so far, there are no new proposals". US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a day earlier said that new negotiations were in the works aimed at getting more hostages released from captivity in Gaza.

The president of the National Assembly in France suspended a session after a far-left lawmaker showed pictures of children in Gaza.

“You do not have the floor. The session is suspended, and I will refer the matter to the bureau regarding the actions that occurred at the end of the session,” Yael Braun-Pivet said after Aymeric Caron, MP from the far-left France Unbowed (LFI), showed the images of Palestinian children at the end of his speech during the government question and answer session.

“Gaza is turning into a concentration camp where the level of barbarity deployed by the Israeli army is such that we must speak in approximations to describe the toll of the ongoing genocide,” noted Caron.

UN chief calls Trump, Netanyahu plans to relocate Palestinians 'against international law'

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres rebuffed a proposal by US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to relocate the people of Gaza to other countries, calling it a violation of international law.

In response to Anadolu Agency's question about their widely denounced plan, Guterres said: "Palestinians must be able to live in a Palestinian state, side by side with an Israeli state. That is the only solution that can bring peace to the Middle East."

He further stated that forcibly relocating Palestinians "is something that is against international law."

UN force inspects sites in southern Syria hit by Israeli air strikes

The UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) conducted inspections at sites in southern Syria that were targeted last week by Israeli forces.

In the Daraa province, a convoy of 10 UNDOF vehicles entered the western part of the city of Nawa, visiting the town of Jebliyah, the Jalal Military Unit, and the Tel Jumu areas early in the morning.

French President Emmanuel Macron called the rapid resumption of aid into Gaza a "top priority" during a visit to the Egyptian city of El-Arish, a key transit point for supplies to the war-battered Palestinian territory.

Israeli army fire kills 18 more Palestinians in Gaza

The Israeli army launched fresh air strikes across Gaza, killing at least 18 more Palestinians, medics said.

Six people of the same family were killed when an Israeli warplane struck a house in the northern town of Beit Lahia, a medical source told Anadolu Agency, adding that also four more people lost their lives when fighter jets struck a group of civilians near a shelter centre in northwestern Gaza City.

Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert accused current Premier Benjamin Netanyahu of supporting settler violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

Netanyahu, in his capacity as prime minister, “supports the heinous crimes committed by the Hilltop Youth in the Palestinian territories,” Olmert told Army Radio.

He also accused the Israeli government of turning a blind eye to the settler violence against Palestinians.
