UK says Israel's 'deplorable attacks' on Gaza health care facilities 'must end'

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy said that Israel's "deplorable attacks" on health care facilities "must end."

Stressing that Al-Ahli Hospital has been targeted multiple times since the start of the conflict, Lammy said on X that Israel's assaults on medical facilities have "comprehensively degraded access to healthcare in Gaza."

Lasting peace can only be achieved through diplomacy, not continued violence, he added. Al-Ahli Arab Hospital in central Gaza was targeted Sunday by two Israeli missiles, which hit the hospital's emergency room, surgical operations building, and medical oxygen production station.

The attack is said to have put the area's last operating hospital out of service.

Attacks on healthcare facilities are classified as war crimes.

Israeli strike on Gaza hospital ‘ugliest form of genocide’: Palestine

Palestine has denounced an Israeli air strike on the al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City as “one of the ugliest forms of genocide”.

An Israeli warplane fired two missiles into the al-Ahli Arab Hospital, causing damage to the facility, which serves over a million Palestinians in northern Gaza.

“This is a clear contempt for international law, humanitarian principles, and the global community,” the Palestinian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The ministry accused Israel of “deliberately destroying 34 hospitals in Gaza since the war began and imposing starvation, thirst, and a blockade on vital medical supplies.”
