The United Nations said Gaza was facing its most severe humanitarian crisis since the war began, with no aid entering the territory for weeks and conditions rapidly deteriorating.

"The humanitarian situation is now likely the worst it has been in the 18 months since the outbreak of hostilities," said the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

In a statement, OCHA said no supplies had reached Gaza for a month and a half, since Israel ended a two-month ceasefire and began blocking their delivery.

Over 6,500 Israeli academics, teachers sign petitions for release of hostages

More than 6,500 Israeli academics and teachers, as well as approximately 1,000 parents, signed petitions urging the government in Tel Aviv to secure the release of hostages held in Gaza, even if it meant ending the war in the enclave.

According to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, approximately 3,500 academics signed a petition supporting a previous letter from Israeli Air Force reservists demanding the return of the hostages and the end of the war.

"We, members of the academic staff in higher education institutions, join the call of the Air Force soldiers and demand the immediate return of the hostages, even if it requires halting the war at once," the petition stated.

Netanyahu 'enemy' of Israel, 'should be imprisoned': ex-army chief

Former Israeli army chief Dan Halutz called Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "an enemy that poses a direct threat" to Israel's security.

"An enemy that poses a direct threat to Israel's security, and his name is Benjamin Netanyahu," Halutz told the Israeli Channel 12. "The enemy should be subdued or imprisoned, not killed," he added.

Netanyahu's Likud Party denounced Halutz's comments, calling them "serious incitement against democracy that encourages the calls from the extreme left over the assassination of the Prime Minister".

Macron urges 'reform' of Palestinian Authority to run Gaza

French President Emmanuel Macron urged "reform" of the Palestinian Authority as part of a plan for the occupied West Bank-based body to govern a post-war Gaza.

Macron called his Palestinian counterpart Mahmud Abbas after last week announcing France could take the unprecedented step of recognising a Palestinian state in coming months, sparking ire from Israel.

"France is fully mobilised to obtain the return of all hostages, the return of a lasting ceasefire and immediate access for humanitarian aid into Gaza," Macron said on X after the phone call. "It is essential to set a framework for the day after: disarm and sideline Hamas, define credible governance and reform the Palestinian Authority," he said.

'No freedom of expression in Europe': Varoufakis

The repression of Palestine solidarity in Europe has exposed the erosion of fundamental democratic rights across the continent, according to Yanis Varoufakis, a former Greek finance minister and vocal critic of Israel's war in Gaza.

"There is no freedom of expression in Europe," Varoufakis told Anadolu in an interview, arguing that citizens are being punished not for violent acts, but for refusing to support Israel's harrowing crimes against Palestinians.

"When you have people being imprisoned for not supporting genocide—in Berlin and in Britain—then we no longer have the right to talk about freedom of expression. It is a freedom we must fight for, as if it never existed."

Gaza's Shifa Hospital struggles to care for injured Palestinians

Al-Shifa Hospital, which has been damaged in the course of the Israeli war on Gaza, is struggling to provide medical care for patients and injured Palestinians in Gaza City following an Israeli air strike on the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital, its director said.

An Israeli warplane fired two missiles on Sunday into Al-Ahli Arab Hospital, the last fully functional hospital, causing damage to the facility and putting it out of service. The hospital served over a million Palestinians in northern Gaza.

"Al-Shifa Hospital is currently operating at a capacity that does not exceed 25%," Mohammad Abu Salmiya told Anadolu. "Despite its limited capacity, the hospital has become the primary facility receiving the wounded and sick after Israel bombed the Baptist Hospital," he added.
